A partnership between Jet magazine and NBCUniversal’s “The Best Man Holiday” is a charitable union that will help five lucky college students pay a portion of their Spring 2014 tuition bill.
The joint effort is called “The Best Man Holiday Spring 2014 Scholarship,” and it will be awarded in conjunction with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. The scholarship giveaway will provide five winners with $1,760.
I know what you’re wondering: What’s does The Best Man Holiday, the long-anticipated sequel to everyone’s favorite The Best Man, have to do with a college scholarship? Well, Jet magazine’s editor-in-chief, Mitzi Miller, loved the first movie because “it told a dynamic story of a group of diverse, adult friends who maintained a strong friendship since their years at college,” she said in a statement. “What better way to celebrate such an inspiring narrative than to help a student finish college so they might one day enjoy that same experience.”
In an email to MN Biz, Miller says this is the first time the magazine has been involved with a scholarship under her leadership and the fund is a great way to help promote the movie.
The essay topic that scholarship applicants must address is befitting of the film: “Describe a reunion moment with your friends or family that could be a scene from a movie.”
To apply, you must be a full-time, currently-enrolled college student and have a 3.0 GPA or higher. Be sure to submit all materials no later than Tuesday, October 15. The winners will be announced in Jet‘s November 25th issue. Visit JetMag.com for your chance to win cash for your tuition.
