Miley Cyrus Says “Homie” Kanye West Helped Her Pull Off Her Controversial VMA Performance

September 24, 2013  |

If you would have told me a few years ago that Kanye West and Miley Cyrus would be “homies” I would have laughed out loud, but if you ask the 20-year-old wild child, she says that the two have “a good relationship.” Not only that, but she says his words gave her the confidence to strut around with a foam finger and drop it low on Robin Thicke at the VMAs last month. Cyrus opened up about her unlikely friendship with the outspoken rapper and how she feels when people say she’s trying to be black in the newest issue of Rolling Stone.

In the newest issue she brought up the expectations people have of her these days and the misconception to her that she’s trying to be black. To that she said the following:

“People are like, ‘Miley thinks she’s a black girl, but she’s got the flattest a** ever.’ I’m like, I’m 108 pounds! I know! Now people expect me to come out and twerk with my tongue out all the time. I’ll probably never do that s**t again.”

She also opened up about getting close with Kanye West recently, and how his kind words helped give her the confidence to do her controversial VMA performance. It all started when West met up with her right before she was set to take the stage and told her that she’s an artist with talent he truly believes in.

“He [comes] in and goes, ‘There are not a lot of artists I believe in more than you right now.’ The whole room went quiet. I was like, ‘Yo – can you say that again?!’ I just kept repeating that over and over in my mind, and it made me not nervous.

Kanye is the s**t. I kind of have a good relationship with him now.’

It’s good to have someone you can call and be like, ‘Yo, do you think I should wear this?’ ‘Do you think I should go in the studio with this guy?’ ‘Do you think this is cool?’ That’s what homies are supposed to do.”

As for her performance, she says that she doesn’t think it was too over the top, especially when compared to what she’s capable of…

“I wasn’t trying to be s*xy. If I was trying to be s*xy, I could have been s*xy. I can dance a lot better than I was dancing.”

Suuuure you can. What do you think of their unlikely friendship? Chat about it below.
