Some of you were a little nervous about Mary J. Blige covering Christmas classics, but she is pushing on and has released an absolute classic as the first song from the album.

Taking her shot at what might be the number one soulful Christmas song in the history of Christmas music, Mary delivers her version of Donny Hathaway’s classic, “This Christmas.”  She keeps it pretty simple while putting a little Mary “stank” on it and of course, the soul is always there.  One thing we always know about Mary is that even if we don’t like a song from her, she always finds a way to put feeling into it.

The album itself, A Mary Christmas, is a collaboration between Mary and legendary producer, David Foster, who have worked together many times in the past. The album contains covers of Christmas classics such as, “The First Noel,” “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” “The Christmas Song” and a host of others. It also features duets with Barbra Streisand, Jessie J. and The Clark Sisters and more.

It sounds like it could be a fun album! A Mary Christmas will be released on October 15th but in the meantime, check out Mary’s version of “This Christmas” and tell us what you think!
