Who says liberal arts degrees don’t pay?
Although a new report on the salary potential of colleges and various majors from PayScale found that eight of the top 10 majors with the highest earning potential are engineering fields, The Huffington Post took another look at the data to break out the liberal arts majors with the highest earning potential. Government studies came in first place with a starting salary of $43,200. The mid-career median salary is $97,100. English Literature came in tenth place. This degree earns a starting median salary of $40,800 and a mid-career median salary of$71,400.
The remaining top five are:
– International relations where you’ll earn a starting median salary of $41,700. Mid-career median salary is $85,700.
– Advertising came in third. The starting median salary is $40,000. The mid-career median salary is $79,400.
-Love to ponder about life? Philosophy was actually in the top 10 list. These majors can pull in a starting median salary of $39,700 and a mid-career median salary of $78,300.
-If you have a flair for style, fashion designers can earn a starting median salary of $39,400. Mid-career median salary is $77,100.
PayScale’s salary report is based on surveys collected from approximately 1.4 million employees. All jobs are included, not just those specific to the major, PayScale said, but advanced degrees were not considered.
