As you know, over the past months we’ve been reporting on the upcoming Marvin Gaye biopic that is set to release in 2014. Although news on the flick has been all over the place, thankfully, we’ve been given the inside scoop on what’s happening behind the scenes — and a preview clip.
Shockingly, along with this preview clip, Shadow And Act is reporting filming for the biopic has reportedly been suspended, adding:
“[T]here was a possibility that the film might not see completion (at least, not anytime soon), because Focus Features International, the company that picked up the project initially, and shopped it at the Cannes Film Festival last May, had pulled out. “
Reasons for Focus’s exited weren’t given, but the site speculates it has to do with reports that crew working on the film have not been fully compensated for their work. Nevertheless, 70% of the biopic has been filmed and this preview footage has been released.
The biopic is set in the early 1980s when Marvin Gaye was recording his album, “Midnight Love.” At the time, Gaye lived in Belgium, was addicted to drugs and his fame was starting to subside. Marvin Gaye, III, previously expressed disapproval of the film focusing on this portion of his father’s life, but the studio still decided to take the biopic in this direction.
Below is a sneak peak of the footage. Check it out and tell us what you think.
