Shondaland On A Roll: Shonda Rhimes Inks Deal To Develop Drama Based On ‘Scandal’ Star’s Book
Shonda Rhimes just keeps building her brand. It has just been announced that her production company, Shondaland, has just picked up another project.
Dan Bucatinsky, who was nominated for an Emmy for his role on Rhimes’ hit series Scandal, will adapt his best-selling book Does This Baby Make Me Look Straight with an hour-long dramedy project for ABC with Shondaland producing, reports EURWeb.
Bucatinsky, who has a recurring role as James, the husband to the White House chief of staff Cyrus (Jeff Perry), will write and executive produce Show & Tell alongside Rhimes and her Shondaland partner Betsy Beers. Besides his appearances on Scandal, Bucatinsky also serves as a co-executive producer/writer on Shonda’s other ABC hit drama Grey’s Anatomy.
Show & Tell is inspired by Bucatinsky’s book, a collection of stories about parenthood. The show has been described as “a fast-based [program] about the lives, loves and scandalous secrets of a group of parents whose kids attend the same school.” Bucatinsky has two children with his husband, screenwriter Don Roos.
Shondaland, the ABC Studios-based banner, has been busy making deals. The company also has a cop drama from Made in Jersey creator Dana Calvo set up at ABC and Lawless from K.J. Steinberg, also with ABC. The two are also working together on a pilot called Gilded Lilys, set in the first luxury hotel in 1895 and focused on the people who both work and stay there.
