‘From ‘TRL’ To ‘Today”: Carson Daly Is Joining Matt and Savannah On The Morning Show Team

September 12, 2013  |

Carson Daly has been popping up at the Today show anchor desk here and there over recent months. Turns out that may have been his audition. Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, and the rest of the Today show team announced this morning that Daly is joining them as host of the Orange Room, a digital set that will make its debut on Monday.

For the past couple of weeks, the show has been broadcast outdoors on the Plaza while Studio 1A has undergone renovations. Those changes have included a new Orange Room, a digital set where Daly will be interacting with the audience through social media hangouts, livestream interviews, and social media updates to stories reported on the air.

The show aired a huge “get to know you” video about Daly, who has had his own late night talk show and moved on to become the host of The Voice since his days VJ’ing and interviewing entertainers for MTV’s Total Request Live. You can check that out below.

Daly will continue to host The Voice, but will only serve as executive producer of Last Call. A new host will be announced. He will also continue to host his morning radio show on 97.1 AMP FM Los Angeles and will work with NBC on new shows and opportunities through a partnership between the network and his Daly Productions.
