End Of An Era? Could Lamar Odom Bring The Kardashian Empire Crashing Down?
With reports of alleged infidelity and drug abuse, Lamar Odom, Khloe Kardashian’s husband of four years, could be tarnishing the brand of the infamous Brady Bunch. But while chaos and turmoil erupts behind closed doors, The Huffington Post says, the Kardashian family have kept a poker face to protect their empire.
The latest news has Odom assuring a pushy paparazzo that “life is good” and getting sued by another pap for allegedly assaulting him on July 10. Stefan Saad, who is asking for $15,000 for his equipment, at least $50,000 for lost work, and at least $500,000 for punitive damages, says he was attacked after he asked Odom if he was cheating on Khloe. RumorFix says Odom went so far as to drive off with the broken equipment. This isn’t the usual paparazzi-friendly behavior we see from the Kardashians.
It’s peculiar, according to HuffPo, that despite reports of Lamar’s DUI arrest two weeks ago, Khloe is keeping up appearances as if nothing is wrong, noting the selfies she’s posting and the “business as usual” attitude.
But in all honesty, what are we waiting for Lamar’s wife to do? Post a picture of her tearful eyes and pursed lips on Instagram? Write a tell-all, emotional tweet on Twitter? Have a public break down in front of the paparazzi? It’s embedded in unwritten law to save the drama for your mama, isn’t it? With the contract for the decaying Keeping Up with the Kardashians reality series set to end in 2015, “maintaining their brand image is paramount [right now],” said Liz Goodgold, a branding and marketing expert.
Other branding experts are shouting, “Bye, bye Kardashians!” as they truly believe that since profits for their clothing brand are tanking and with “Lamar Odom threatening to derail the entire family,” the golden era of the Kardashians is ending. But this hypothesis, I believe, is just wishful thinking. HuffPo and branding expert Rob Frankel agree. While the Kardashians are mending their tarnished reputation, the E! network “could view this as a good time to shift focus over to rising stars Kendall and Kylie Jenner,” the site says.
While the Kardashian talents are debatable, we can’t ignore their amazing ability to capitalize on, well, anything. If the Kardashians can rise from offering zilch but reality television antics and socialite living, I believe they can capitalize from the scandals that consistently plague the family — unfortunately. And as Frankel explained, even if the public has been hit with Kardashian-fatigue, they still have the Jenner sisters to rejuvenate their fortunes.
Think that the Kardashian empire will crumble anytime soon?
