Juicy J Doesn’t Get Why Folks Are Upset About His Twerk Scholarship: ‘I’m Giving Back To The Community!’

September 5, 2013  |

A few weeks ago we told you about Juicy J’s recently announced twerk scholarship, through which he plans to give $50,000 to “the best chick that can twerk.” Days after Juicy’s rumpshaker contest was revealed, it came out that a few women leaders in the hip-hop community called for the masses to boycott the “Bandz A Make Her Dance” rapper’s newly released album, Stay Trippy, expressing that the contest was nothing more than another attempt to exploit black women.

“There’s no honor in getting a scholarship for shaking your behind….I think its degrading. Why would you want to get a scholarship for that when there’s a lot of intelligent women out here who use their brain. Why don’t you give them some money?” said Seeka the Teacha of the Hip Hop Liberation Army.

While we can’t say whether or not the boycott had an impact in Juicy’s album sales, we can say that it doesn’t appear to have altered his stance regarding the scholarship. During a recent interview with Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club, when asked by Angela Yee about the “heat” he’s been under in regard to the scholarship competition, Juicy responded:

“Why? Heat? I’m giving back to the community. How is that heat? I’m giving money away… a $50,000 scholarship. How is that heat?”

It’s also interesting to note that Juicy has a song called “Scholarship” on his new album featuring A$AP Rocky. An excerpt from the song’s lyrics read:

“Say you need some extra cash to pay for college with
And it just so happens I got a lot of it
Spin around the pole while you’re doing splits
By the end of the night might earn you a scholarship

You a college chick, you a college chick
Keep twerking baby, might earn you a scholarship
You a college chick, you a college chick
Keep twerking baby, might earn you a scholarship
100 dollars, 100 dollars, 100 dollars, trick
100 dollars, 100 dollars, 100 dollars, trick
You a college chick, you a college chick
By the end of the night might earn you a scholarship.”

When asked about the song, Juicy responded:

“Aye, I do have a song on my album called ‘Scholarship’ featuring A$AP Rocky. It’s super hard. Chicks love it. It just keeps you in the…you know, when you think about that $50,000 scholarship and you listen to that song, you know, chick might wanna enter into that contest.”

If protestors were hoping that Juicy would experience a change of heart, it doesn’t look like that will be happening anytime soon.
