Nowadays convenience is King, and when it comes to fashion and beauty products delivered to your doorstep, Brittney Marshall, creator of My BrownBox—the #1 subscription beauty, lifestyle, and luxury box for women of color—has things down to a science. More than just your average monthly beauty subscription service, the goal of My BrownBox, according to Brittney, is to “develop a welcoming community where women of color connect, inspire and inform one another through a shared experience. Another difference between My BrownBox and other services is that MBB not only includes makeup, skin care, body care, nail care, and hair care, but we also expand our product offering to include lifestyle goods.”

The monthly themed boxes are absolutely genius! Marshall, who grew up in a very entrepreneurial household drew a lot of inspiration from her immediate family. She explains that her “ father and brother both are business owners, so I’d have to say that my dad’s entrepreneurial spirit has rubbed off on my brother and I quite a bit. My mother is very much into fashion and makeup, so I’m a combination of both my parents.”

Having real life examples to guide her along her path to small business ownership  helped Marshall to create My BrownBox. After feeling that women of color were underrepresented within the beauty and cosmetic marketplace, she took matters into her own hands. Despite her unbelievable success within a short amount of time, the journey to establishing My BrownBox hasn’t always been a smooth one. Brittney worked a 9-5 and worked on My BrownBox once she got off up until this July. “On a good night, I’d be up until 3 am. Many nights 3 am turned into 6 am. But I’ve always found that most of my ideas start brewing during those hours when I am in complete solitude.”   Brittany talks being discriminated against by brands, upcoming beauty boxes, and her all-time fave products next.
