Laura Govan On Her Close Friendship With NeNe Leakes: ‘She’s Very Mothering’

September 5, 2013  |

When NeNe Leakes first revealed who the members of her reality star-studded bridal party, I was kind of surprised to learn that Basketball Wives: LA star Laura Govan was one of her bridesmaids. As it turns out, Laura and NeNe have quite the friendship! During a recent interview with Sister 2 Sister, Govan opened up about the unlikely friendship and revealed that the “very rich” reality star has become somewhat of a mentor for her.

“She’s very mothering. She’s very wise. She gives me a lot, a lot of knowledge about TV, life, being a woman, coming up in this business, what I should do, what I shouldn’t do.”

Laura also expressed her appreciation for NeNe.

“I admire her as a person, as a woman. So, I appreciate everything that she’s done for me and has given to me.”

Of course, seeing is believing, and luckily for nosy folks like us, we’ll get to see their friendship in action when NeNe’s wedding special, I Dream of NeNe, debuts on September 17th. Laura admits that she was just as shocked as we were when NeNe asked her to be a bridesmaid.

“I was so surprised that she asked me. I was very thankful.”

“Anything that has to do with NeNe Leakes is exciting. Every time we’re together, we have such a great time,” she added.

In addition to all of that, Laura says I Dream of NeNe viewers will also witness some pretty embarrassing moments, for example, when he dress nearly fell apart as she walked down the isle.

“What I wanted was something different. I didn’t get it, but we worked it out. As a matter of fact, I took pieces out of the trashcan. I took some scraps to make it work. Literally, I was stitched in before I walked down the aisle. I was so nervous. I was clinching on for dear life, so my dress wouldn’t fall apart.”

In the end, she says everything wound up coming together.

“It was amazing. It ended up being beautiful. We all looked to perfection. It was great.”
