Afraid that its advertising campaign was being mixed up with Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig has decided to do away with celebrity spokespeople in its ads. That means no more Mariah Carey, Jason Alexander, and Valerie Bertinelli.
According to Ad Age, when Leesa Eichberger took the chief marketing officer job at Jenny Craig, she was unhappy to find that potential customers thought Jennifer Hudson was in Jenny Craig commercials, J-Hud is actually a spokesperson for Weight Watchers.
In its place, Jenny Craig has decided to go with animation, unknown actors, and a message that focuses on the personalized service you get and portion control.
Jenny Craig hasn’t been doing that well financially. And faces not just competition from other companies, but from free apps, which more people are turning to as a low-cost option, Ad Age reports.
So here’s a new ad below. Is it effective? Honestly, I thought the Mariah Carey ads were awful. (We’ve got one after the jump.) But the question is whether this new ad is better.
