It was just June 22 that film producer and director (and a whole bunch of other titles) George Lucas and Ariel Investments President Mellody Hobson wed at his Skywalker Ranch in Marin County, Calif. But less than two months later, the couple are new parents to a baby girl, named Everest Hobson Lucas. Little Everest was born via gestational carrier, better known as a surrogate. Born Friday, Everest is their first biological child together and in general. Lucas has three other children that he adopted over the years, including daughters Amanda (32) and Katie (25), and son Jett (20), while Everest is Mellody’s first child. As part of the trend of older folks having children, Lucas is 69 years old, while Hobson is 44. While they might be older than some would like to have children, it’s nice that they waited for that special and stable person to come into their lives before they brought another little person into the world. The couple dated one another for seven years before deciding to tie the knot, and before announcing his engagement to Hobson earlier this year, Lucas stated that while Star Wars and his other films have been his babies, he was ready to focus on something else: “It has been my life, but I am ready to move on to bigger and better things.” Maybe he meant this new baby girl! Congrats!
