Tia Mowry-Hardrict and the cast of her new sitcom “Instant Mom” presented Friday morning at the TCA press tour in Beverly Hills. It’s the first original scripted series to air in Nick Jr.’s adult block, NickMom.

“There’s an entire generation of adults, actually almost 55 percent of today’s moms, who grew up watching Nickelodeon and now have little ones of their own who are also watching the network,” said NickMom senior vice president Bronwen O’Keefe. We wanted to create a special place just for these moms, a place where they could unwind, relax, have a little fun at the end of a long day after the permission slip has been signed, the laundry is folded, and that 17th glass of water has been retrieved. So last October we launched NickMom. …We’re excited our audience will get to see Tia in her first starring role as a mom, joined by the very talented Michael Boatman and Sheryl Lee Ralph.”

Ralph plays the mother of Tia’s character Stephanie, a party girl who gives up the nightlife when she marries Charlie (Boatman), who already has three kids (Sydney Park, Tylen Williams and Damarr Calhoun). Stephanie slowly grows into her role as a full-time stepmom while struggling to maintain some sense of her fun-loving, slightly irresponsible life.

“I’m really excited to be working on a show like this in front of a live audience. It’s just a lot of fun,” Tia said. “It reminds me so much of when I was doing ‘Sister, Sister.’ We’re even shooting at Paramount Studios, where I shot ‘Sister, Sister.’ So just so many memories are coming back.”

Below, Ralph says her role of Stephanie’s meddling mama Maggie is drawn from her real life experience in a blended family after she married her husband, Pennsylvania State Senator Vincent Hughes.
