Beauty For Body & Soul: Skincare Goodies By African-American Entrepreneurs
The Godmother Of Black Care Products
Lisa Price could be credited with starting it all with her line of beauty products, Carol’s Daughter. Started in the 1980s and officially launched in 1993 out of her home, over the years her natural product line has grown to include items for hair, skin, and hands, as well as fragrances. Most popular are her products for natural haircare. Price uses pure oils such as sweet almond, jojoba, soy and other organic ingredients. There are even products for kids.
Because of her popularity of her products, Price has been able to attract major investors. Marketing executive Steve Stoute led a group of investors — which includes Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith, Jay Z and Mary J. Blige — in raising $10 million for the venture. Spokeswomen for the line have included Mary J. Blige and Solange Knowles.
