‘She Would’ve Been A Field N****r:’ ‘The Color Purple’ Actress Goes On Bitter, Inappropriate Rant About Oprah
Remember the days when celebrities would keep their mouths closed until it was time for them to perform? Yeah, I miss those days too. The latest celeb to put her foot in her mouth and shove it all the way down her throat is actress Rae Dawn Chong, who played Squeak in The Color Purple alongside media mogul Oprah Winfrey. Rae Dawn recently did an interview with Matty P’s Happy Hour Radio and things got a little crazy when she was asked about her relationship with Oprah. According to Rae Dawn, Oprah was “lovely” to her on the set of The Color Purple, but once she moved on to her next movie, Commando, Oprah turned into a “total biotch”
“She invited me to come to her show when I starred in ‘Commando’ and she just wasn’t having me. She’s competitive. She didn’t like me. She just wasn’t having me. They put in a really crappy hotel. Then, I was backstage and she never called me on stage and I was like, ‘You know what? F*** you b***h,” Rae Dawn said.
“Big shock to the world, Oprah is all about Oprah,” she continued. “I can say she’s done great things for women of color, women of a certain size… but does that mean she’s a great person?”
The 52-year-old actress went on to attack Oprah’s physical appearance and make some pretty offensive comments.
“You kind of gotta look at and her go, ‘Hello, hats off. You have done an amazing thing. You have actually shifted the DNA of the universe.’In terms of thinking and power structure, if you look at the way [Oprah] looks, she looks like 60 years ago she would have been a house keeper luckily. She would have not been a house n**ger she would have been a field n**ger. I have to stop and say this woman is a miracle. She changed our thinking off a woman of a certain size and a certain shade.”
“Shes so enormously insecure. If you wanna distill Oprah Winfrey down to like her most basic components. She wants to be beautiful.”
“Imagine being [Oprah]. She has all of the world. All the power in the world … and she only wants something that is only chemical, purely impossible.”
There are so many things wrong with this interview, I don’t even know where to begin.
