The Emmy Nominations Are In….Guess Who’s In And Who’s Out This Year

July 18, 2013  |

It’s no secret we ride for “Scandal” here at MadameNoire so when it comes to this year’s Emmy Nominations, which are currently being announced live, there’s good news and there’s bad news when it comes to the ABC drama.

The bad news is that “Scandal”  didn’t receive a nomination in the category of Outstanding Drama Series. The good news is Kerry Washington snagged a nom for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. So basically, we’re 50% happy right now.

This year’s nominations mark the second year in a row that Scandal was snubbed, as some would say, for an Emmy nomination, but also the first time Kerry, who we love as the fierce, gut-trusting “fixer” and gladiator, Olivia Pope, received a nomination for her role. Some would say that’s not too shabby as Shonda Rhimes’ drama is just about to enter its third season this fall. Plus, Kerry’s nomination marks the first time a black actress has been up for this award since Cicely Tyson in 1995. Still, for those of us who have been glued to our television sets from 10-11 pm every Thursday night since season 1, we’re wondering, where is (all) the love?

Kerry has some stiff competition in her category, but we’re rooting for her all the way. And in other black nominee news, Don Cheadle is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy series as the no-nonsense Marty Kaan on “House of Lies.”Alfre Woodard also grabbed a nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie category, for her role as the feisty Ouiser in Lifetime’s all-black remake of Steel Magnolias.

Here’s a list of the nominees in the lead actress and outstanding drama series categories. Check out the rest here. What do you think? Will you watch the Emmy’s when they air September 22 at 8pm?
