Win! Ava DuVernay To Direct Episode Of ‘Scandal’ Next Season

July 15, 2013  |

Can we just say Ava DuVernay is officially on a roll in Hollywood? Last week we were already singing the director’s praises after finding out she was set to direct an upcoming Martin Luther King, Jr. biopic. And, of course, we can’t forget about her stellar film, “Middle of Nowhere,” which garnered amazing reviews and made DuVernay the first African American woman to win the US Directing Award in the Dramatic category at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah last year. Now we’ve just learned our girl is set to direct an episode of ABC’s “Scandal” next season. That’s right, Shonda Rhimes and Ava Duvernay (and let’s not forget Kerry Washington) on one set. Talk about a match made in television heaven!

Television line producer Merri Howard broke the news with one tweet late last week and the twittersvere exploded with excitement. She wrote:

Welcome @AVAETC. Ava will be directing @ScandalABC episode 308. She is shadowing epi. 301 with us. We are all excited!!!

Episode 308 doesn’t tell us much about when we can expect DuVernay’s episode to air, as no official air date for season 3 has been announced yet. But being the “Scandal” fiends we all are, there’s no way we’re going to miss this. How excited are you??
