It’s no secret that things did not end well between comedienne and actress Mo’Nique and BET. The relationship between the network and the outspoken funny lady was long lived. She was the host for not one, but two of the entertainment channel’s annual awards shows and even landed her own evening talk show with the network. It appeared that things could only get better between BET and the 45-year-old Baltimore native, but unfortunately, the cancellation of the Mo’Nique Show is where the blossoming relationship ended. Although the exact reason for the network’s decision to put the axe to the nightly talk show was never revealed, but earlier this year during an interview with Hot 97, the Skinny Women are Evil author let it be known that the relationship did not end on such a positive note.
“Let me say this about the experience, it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. We wanted folk to go to bed and feel good. Those two years were amazing. I wish I could give you the answer. I honestly don’t know what happened with the Monique Show. You should maybe ask Ms. Debra Lee because I don’t wanna assume. I can’t give you answer to that. But what I will say to the people, we thank you. It was a show for our community, baby. It was so diverse; it was for everybody,” she told the station’s morning show hosts.
Whatever the issue was, it looks like it may have been small enough to work out (or sweep under the rug) because rumor has it that Mo and BET are in bed yet again, developing another television show. According to Indie Wire, there’s been no word in regard to the type of show being worked on, but sources say pre-production for a pilot episode is already in the works.
Would you be happy to see Mo’Nique return to BET?
