The Art Of Complaining: How To Speak Up And Get The Results You Want

July 8, 2013  |

In order to get the service or product you desire you just might have to complain. Legitimate complaints can actually help a company better improve their products and customer service. But you need to know how to complain.

First, know your rights as a customer. Consumers have rights. In the case of airlines, for instance, there’s a public bill of rights for passengers issued. In addition to making your complaint to the company, you can also complain to the Better Business Bureau and other government bureaus meant to handle these issues.

Next and very basic: When making your complaint it should be concise, clear and calm. A hot head may only spur a hostile response and you’re less likely to resolve the issue.

And keep a paper trail of your complaints — take notes when talking to reps on the phone, always get names and phone extensions, and ask for documentation in writing.
