They’d Rather Go Nakey: Celebrities We’re Surprised Posed For PETA
Nothing makes us happier than seeing celebrities who are willing to give their time and resources to a worthy cause. But we’d be lying if we said we weren’t surprised when these celebrities came out in such fervent support of animal rights. And trust us, it wasn’t just their time and resources they were willing to put out there. From the cute to the downright hot and steamy, we take a look at PETA’s 14 most surprising ads.
The lovely Eva Mendes has never been shy about showing off some of her best assets. And we can’t blame her. If we had a body like that, you’d be hard-pressed to find us in anything more than our undies. But even Ms. Mendes ditched the undergarments when she posed for PETA back in the day. The actress went au natural in PETA’s infamous anti-fur campaign to show her support for animal rights. And if we had to guess, PETA probably saw a spike in male converts after this hot Latina joined the cause.
Danity Kane isn’t exactly on top of the musical game these days, but their legacy lives on in their work with PETA. Back in 2008, the girl group, comprised of members Aubrey O’Day, Aundrea Fimbres, Dawn Richard, D. Woods and Shannon Bex, shed their clothes for a cause. Diddy’s proteges, clad in only a strategically-placed sign, followed in the illustrious footsteps of dozens of other celebrities fighting for animal rights.
Dennis Rodman might be a joke today, but some years ago he was a very serious animal rights enthusiast. In fact, Rodman became the first male star to pose for PETA’s infamous nudie campaign, under the headline “Think Ink, Not Mink.” And given the fact that this is the same man who has paraded around in a wedding dress, dyed his hair every color of the rainbow, and made a straight up fool of himself for the vast majority of his career, you could say we were stunned he actually managed to do something good for humanity.
Kimora Lee Simmons
Given her larger than life personality, maybe it shouldn’t have come as much of a shock when model and mogul Kimora Lee Simmons decided to shed her designer clothes to be featured in PETA’s ad campaign. But fans were treated to a rare glimpse of the softer side of Simmons as she posed with her beloved dog, Zoe. Her love of animals was something she wanted to convey not only through her ad, but in her words as well, telling PETA, “Everybody should do the best they can because a lot of little bests-you-can add up to a lot of saved animals. We couldn’t agree more.
One of the newest additions to the, wow did she really pose, collection, Tia Mowry shed her clothes and good girl image when she posed for PETA earlier this year. Though she kept her modesty in tact a little more than some of her other animal supporting sisters, she still looked great in a leafy apron. And most importantly, she got her message of vegan acceptance across very well.
Waka Flocka is a lot of things, but a hardcore animal lover was not one we guessed. But indeed, the successful rapper took time out of his busy schedule to shoot an ad for PETA, reminding fans to “Ink, Not Mink.”
Whoa now, Wendy Williams! The TV host and personality proudly showed off some very impressive assets (and some incredible hair) when she posed for Peta last Fall. Known for her outspoken ways, we’re actually fairly surprised we never realized how much of an animal lover Williams was until she posed in the buff. In her commercial, in fact, she confidently proclaims, “We should all try to be comfortable in our own skin and let animals keep theirs.” Preach!
If you want your message received loud and clear, whose help is better to enlist than a world-famous supermodel’s? And what’s even better than one supermodel? How about five supermodels? When Naomi Campbell and four other leggy ladies joined forces back in 1994 in a very steamy PETA ad, the world definitely took notice. Though Campbell would later change her stance (she modeled a Russian sable coat some years later, unapologetically saying “And yes, I am still wearing fur, but I’ve made up with that guy from PETA.”), the ad still remains one of PETA’s most iconic.
He’s probably better known for his skills on the court and his stylish dressing off it, but Amar’e Stoudemire gave the world a glimpse into another part of who he is: Animal lover. The NBA pro said after his shoot for PETA’s Ink Not Mink campaign, “I wouldn’t want to see anything cruel happen to any animals just for fashion.” We couldn’t agree more.
Taraji P. Henson
We’ve always been huge fans of Taraji P. Henson. The talented actress has climbed her way to be among one of Hollywood’s elite talents over the last several years. But in addition to her on-screen interests, Henson also took time out of her busy schedule to not only participate in PETA’s I’d Rather Go… campaign, but was also featured in a second PETA ad, Be An Angel For Animals. Henson shared this with the organization about what prompted her to participate:
“When I realized what went into—not just, we’re not just even talking about a full-length fur coat, I’m talking about just … fur on your gloves or on your jacket or—what goes into making that little piece of fur ripped my heart out. And as humans, we have control. What if someone said, ‘Black skin is the new fur’?”
We’re going to keep this one short and sweet, seeing as if you’re unsure why we would include NFL safety Bret Lockett’s, maybe you need to take a closer look.
The stunning Angela Simmons continued PETA’s tradition of beautiful women in their successful campaign, Eating Meat Is a Sin: Go Vegetarian. Inspired by uncle Russell to adopt a vegetarian lifestyle, Simmons was not shy about shedding her clothes to get a larger message across, as she told PETA: “I really want people to know what happens to animals … Animals have feelings, and I think it’s important we take action.”
Back in 2009, the lovely Nia Long threw modesty to the wind as she stripped down to pose in PETA’s staple campaign. Brooklyn born and bred, it was only right Nia’s ad show off her New York roots, even if she does appear to be airbrushed from the waist down.
Tony and October Gonzalez
One of the hottest PETA ads to make our list was, hands down, is Tony and October Gonzalez going au naturel for PETA. The accomplished NFL tight end and his wife were not bashful about using their toned and taut bodies for a good cause. And we’re very happy they did.
It may have been seen as nothing more than a publicity stunt at the time, but Evelyn Lozada swore her heart was in the right place for once when she decided to bear all in the name of animal love.
