7 Tips for Summertime Career Development

July 1, 2013  |

The biggest complaint I hear among aspiring and current professionals is that you need experience to get a job but you can’t get experience without getting a job. Well, we have to expand our definition of experience. Volunteering is a great way to get some experience and the hours are flexible. Of course, I understand that most of us have to work to support ourselves, so I’m not suggesting that you volunteer 9-to-5 Monday through Friday. Just pick one day a week or every other week and volunteer for a couple hours. You’ll get some invaluable experience, the chance to try out a new career option, and, if you’re good, you’ll get a great recommendation for another job.
