For as much of a diva as Mariah Carey is, it’s a bit refreshing to see that the singer’s not afraid to peel back the layers — literally — when it comes to her cinematic endeavors. Teaming up with Lee Daniels for a second time around, Mariah is posed to impress in her role as Hattie Pearl in the director’s upcoming film “The Butler.”
The last time we saw Mariah looking even reminiscent to the woman in the pic above was when she starred in “Precious,” also directed by Lee Daniels, as frumpy counselor Ms. Weiss. Now she will play the role of a field slave by the name of Hattie Pearl in “The Butler” which stars Forest Whitaker and tells the story of White House butler Eugene Allen, who served several U.S. presidents over the course of his 34-year tenure.
So far, not much is known about Hattie Pearl or how crucial she was to Eugene Allen’s life, but there will no doubt be questions about why someone as light as Mimi was cast as a slave who worked the fields. But let’s reserve our judgement until we see the finished product — and speculate what the divalicious singer is thinking in this still. What ‘chu say boo?
