It was only a year and two months ago that Martin Lawrence and his ex-wife filed for divorce, but Shamicka Gibbs has already snagged herself a gig riding on her ex-husband’s name. According to a news release from VH1, she’s joining the cast of “Hollywood Exes” for its second season. As her bio on the site states:
Shamicka joins the cast fresh out of her marriage to comedian Martin Lawrence. But battling a recent divorce is only one of Shamicka’s hurdles; she was also diagnosed with the autoimmune disease, Lupus, and has had to adapt her lifestyle…
Not much is known about Shamicka who was in a relationship with Martin for 13 years before they tied the knot in 2010. Just two years later, the parents who share two daughters together, called it quits and we haven’t heard from either since then, until now of course. Shamicka won’t be the only one we see adapting to a new lifestyle in this second season, as the news release reveals virtually all the ladies — Nicole Murphy, Andrea Kelly, Mayte Garcia, Sheree Fletcher, and Jessica Canseco — are going through a transition period and will be returning for another season to continue their story
Drea, who has been spending her time between Chicago and Los Angeles, is not happy with Jessica for some choice words she shared with Drea on Twitter. After returning to L.A., she and Jessica will finally have it out, resulting in one of the most explosive – and honest – confrontations in the show’s history. Meanwhile, Jessica struggles with being the single mom of a rebellious teenager – Josie has been acting out and her grades are slipping. Mayte, who has been desperate to have a child, makes plans to adopt a one-year-old baby. The others worry that everything is happening too fast – what if something goes wrong and Mayte loses another child? Finally, Shamicka’s wounds from her divorce are still fresh – her divorce from Martin Lawrence was just recently finalized. Every day brings new challenges that only a Hollywood Ex can understand, but thankfully the others are there to help her find her way.
Noticeably missing from the release is Daphne Wayans who was expected to be a new addition to season 2 as well. When we interviewed the ex-wife of Keenen Ivory Wayans last month, she talked to us about filming for the show and why she was joining the cast but so far her name appears to be absent from the roster. We’re following up to see what’s going on there. And in the meantime looking forward to season 2 debuting July 8 at 10pm on VH1.
