NewsOne is reporting some disturbing news about the daughter of popular ’90s rapper DJ Quik. According to the site, his 21-year-old daughter and the father of her child have been arrested in connection with the beating death of their 2-year-old son.
The arrest actually took place in mid-May according to a news report from KPHO in Phoenix. The report states Davieanna Marlena Blake, DJ Quik’s daughter according to Vlad TV, and Darnell Moses Alvarez, 24, were arrested by Phoenix Police May 1 after being found standing next to the body of their dead child outside their apartment.
A witness told investigators he heard Alvarez disciplining the young boy for wetting himself or the bed, and that he could hear the child being spanked, describing the discipline as “excessive.” When police found the child, he had multiple bruises on his legs, arms, behind, back and face, court documents show.
Blake told officers she and Alvarez had been arguing earlier in the day and after the child woke they saw he had wet the bed overnight. At this point, she claimed Alvarez struck the child about five times with a leather belt and said she didn’t intervene for fear of upsetting the child’s father more. Blake then went on to work and when she returned home, she said her son had multiple bruises and eventually stopped breathing while she and Alvarez argued over whether or not they should take him to the hospital because Alvarez didn’t want to get Child Protective Services involved.
Autopsy results show the 2-year-old suffered a lacerated liver, severe internal bleeding and multiple bruising throughout his body, which is inconsistent with being struck with a belt only, as Alvarez claimed. Phoneix News Times reports:
“Alvarez admitted to striking the boy twice with a belt in the morning for wetting the bed, and hit him twice again in the afternoon after defecating in his underwear.
‘The child dropped to the floor and attempted to roll away,’ the probable-cause statement says. ‘Darnell continued to follow the child, striking him repeatedly as the child continued to try to get away.’
The boy wouldn’t eat later, and according to the court documents, ‘Darnell stated he may have been heavy handed when disciplining the child.’
Alvarez said he only hit the child with the belt, and nothing else, and said it was ‘his fault’ that his son died, according to the documents.”
Both Blake and Alvarez were arrested and booked in jail on suspicion of child abuse and first-degree murder. Alvarez’s bond was set at $500,000, and Blake’s was set at $250,000. At the time of the KPHO report, a preliminary hearing for the case was scheduled for May 13. So far there’s been no update.
