As sweet and poised as she may be, it’s pretty obvious that First Lady Michelle Obama is not to be played with. Unfortunately, gay rights activist Ellen Sturtz never received that memo. Homegirl called herself making a scene last night at a Democratic fundraiser in Northwest Washington and the FLOTUS wasn’t having it.
About 12 minutes into Mrs. Obama’s 20-minute remarks, Sturtz stood up and began yelling about why the President needs to issue an executive order prohibiting federal contractors from discriminating against employees due to their sexual orientation and gender identity, The New York Times reports.
Mrs. Obama, clearly unwilling to deal with the disrespect, left the podium where she was delivering her speech and moved towards Sturtz.
“One of the things I don’t do well is this,” the First Lady began as the room erupted into a boisterous applause.
“[You can either] listen to me, or you can take the mic, but I’m leaving. You all decide. You have one choice,” she continued.
The crowd of course yelled for the FLOTUS to stay. A woman then turned to Sturtz and told her, “You need to go!” Not long after, the heckler, who later identified herself as “a lesbian looking for federal equality before I die,” was escorted out. Once she was gone, Mrs. Obama finished her speech.
“So let me make the point that I was making before. We cannot wait for the next presidential election to get fired up and ready to go. We cannot wait. Right now, today, we have an obligation to stand up for those kids.”
Yesssssss Mrs. O! Unfortunately, no video cameras were allowed into the event, but honey, I would’ve loved to have been a fly on the wall!
