Charles Ramsey Is Getting Free Burgers For Life All Over Ohio
Charles Ramsey will be eating well for the rest of his life if restaurants across Ohio have their way. Ramsey shot to fame and hero status after he left his McD’s meal to help Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight escape from the Cleveland home they’d been held captive in for a decade. As a reward, restaurants around the state are naming burgers after him and offering him free meals.
A restaurant called Hodge’s has created a “Ramsey Burger” in his honor. Ramsey is a dishwasher there. He’s also been given a “Chuck Card” that makes him eligible for free burgers for life at a dozen restaurants over Northeast Ohio.
“He stopped his meal midway through to help those women. We’re now making sure he has other opportunities to go out and fully enjoy his burger,” Scott Kuhn from Driftwood Restaurant Group is quoted saying on Gawker.
The one burger joint that hasn’t ponied up any reward is McDonald’s. Right after the event, the company tweeted that they would be in touch with Ramsey. Thus far, we haven’t heard anything more. We suspected that they would jump at the chance to make Ramsey a spokesperson of some kind for the company. But they may have been scared off by reports of Ramsey’s criminal record. It doesn’t excuse the past, but we believe people can change (his wife seems to have moved on) and he’s done a magnificent thing here. We hope Ramsey will continue to be recognized for his good deed.
