Healthy Reading: Dr. Oz Magazine Is On Its Way
Oprah’s favorite TV doctor (besides Dr. Phil), Dr. Oz is following in her footsteps and launching a magazine of his own. The magazine was first rumored to be on the way in January, but now The New York Post reports (via MediaBistro) that Oz and Hearst Publishing are in the “final stages.” The launch promises to be “gigantic.”
Dr. Oz’s magazine is expected to launch by the end of the year. It may seem like an odd time to debut a magazine as many print publications are closing or going strictly digital. Magazine sales are down overall. In fact, reports the The New York Times, single-copy sales of consumer magazines dropped 9.96 percent during the second half of 2011 to 28.9 million from 32.1 million, compared with the second half of 2010, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations. Dr. Oz’s glossy will have an 800,000 rate base, with an estimated 350,000 readers from newsstand sales.
For five seasons, Oz appeared as a health expert on The Oprah Winfrey Show before landing on The Dr. Oz Show. His popular daily television program focuses on medical issues and personal health and was launched by Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions and Sony Pictures.
