The White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities estimates that only 10 percent of the 105 black colleges and universities in the country offer online degrees, as opposed to one-third of the country’s 4,500 universities.

Syndicated radio host and Tuskegee University graduate Tom Joyner has donated $7 million to start HBCUsOnline.com, which launched in September 2010.
