Celebs Whose Failures Taught Us To Dust Ourselves Off And Try Again
Vanessa Williams continues to be relevant and fabulous at 50. The first African-American crowned Miss USA in 1984, nude photos from a private photography session surfaced and she gave up the crown. Vanessa went on to release music a few years later that earned her tons of Grammy nominations.
In 2003 Williams joined the cast of the NBC show Boomtown that was canceled in the same year due to poor ratings. Just three years later, she joined the cast of South Beach that was also canceled after just eight episodes on air. That same year, Vanessa would see some success playing the memorable of Wilhemina Slater on the ABC dramedy, Ugly Betty. Running for four seasons, ABC later cancelled the show as it struggled to bring in viewers. That did not get the New York native down as she later joined the cast of ABC’s Desperate Housewives for their final two seasons. Ending its run in 2012, she soon jumped on the ABC project 666 Park Avenue, but would unfortunately relive former outcomes as the network canceled the show in its first season.
If it sounds like she can’t get a break, think again. Even with cancelled show after show, Vanessa has kept her head up and filled her resume with more work. Taking to the stage, Vanessa is currently starring in the Broadway show ‘The Trip to Bountiful’ alongside Cicely Tyson and Cuba Gooding Jr. She also had a recent film role in Tyler Perry’s Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor.
