Summer is here, which means it’s time to dust off the patio furniture and freshen up your deck décor just in time for afternoon cookouts and pool parties. If you’re at a loss for where to begin, don’t worry because The Home Depot has you covered. In this year’s Patio Style Challenge, the home improvement specialty retailer invited 18 designers to transform a backyard, porch, or patio into an inviting oasis using one of the store’s 2013 patio sets as the center piece. Here we’ve hand-picked three design ideas from our favorite contestants to give you a creative boost for redesigning your own outdoor space.
Atlanta Native Jewel Hazelton is a blogger at Eat.Drink.Shop.Love. who delivers smart fashion commentary, delicious recipes and cool design tips on the site.
For the challenge, Jewel redesigned her friend’s small deck using The Home Depot’s Hampton Bay Fenton Chat Set. The space was brightened with blue and green pillows and colored drinking glasses along with miniature lanterns that were hung on the patio wall to keep the space well lit in the evening.
To kick the greenery up a notch, fun summer messages were written on ceramic pots, while others were dipped in gold and silver paint and spray painted with chalkboard paint to make plants pop.
