Alright, you know the deal: you’re a black, single woman, and your life is doomed because all the black men you desire are either gay, in jail, or emotionally unavailable after 63 months of giving them all of your emotion (sorry, just threw that last one in there as a nod to the sister-girl stories we share during Madame Noire‘s “Margarita Mondays”…you should join us, really), but you get the point. Love sucks, but it either sucks more than normal or fades to non-existence if you’re black and female in America, according to today’s mainstream news outlets.

Almost every news outlet has spoken: black womanhood is synonymous with ‘eternal spinsterhood,’ and ‘can’t-never-get-a-man-no-way-no-how’-hood.

In broadcast media, ABC News questioned whether sisters will ever crawl out of their awful, single misery–because, that’s right, being a black single woman is an epidemic and will destroy the planet Earth in approximately 5.876 decades (unless of course you’re a star on Sex and the City, then it’s cool to be in your 40s and single and gingerly).

In print media, The New York Times joined the bandwagon, with its beautifully written, well-researched argument that all the eligible black brothers are marrying outside of their race–further shrinking the already-shrunken pool of chocolate cuties available to sisters.
