Lauryn Hill Pleads With Courts To Have Mercy On Her, Says She Stopped Paying Taxes After She Received Frightening Threats
90’s songbird Lauryn Hill is just one of many celebrities who have found themselves in trouble with Uncle Sam after failing to pay owed taxes. The mom of six was brought up on charges after her failure to file taxes for 2005, 2006 and 2007. Within those three years, Hill’s earnings exceeded $1.8 million and now there may be severe consequences to pay. According to TMZ, the singer has already pled guilty to the charges that were brought against her and could face several years in prison.
In a last ditch effort to avoid being sentenced to prison time when she faces the judge presiding over her case on April 22nd, Lauryn has filed court papers, revealing the “real” reason why she stopped putting out music and paying her taxes. According to the documents, Lauryn stopped paying owed taxes “when she withdrew from society at large due to what she perceived as manipulation and very real threats to herself and her family.”
So far there’s no word on who was actually doing the threatening and exactly what kind of threats were being made to Hill and her family, but TMZ says Lauryn is hoping that this new revelation, in addition to other factors will cause the judge to have mercy on her during sentencing. We hear she’s really hoping for probation, telling the courts that she can pay back owed money way faster if she doesn’t have to serve a prison sentence.
While we don’t know exactly what sort of threats could cause Lauryn to stop paying her taxes, we do know that her disappearance from the music scene was rather mysterious. Hopefully things work out for her.
