Remember Pastor Jeremiah Wright? He was the one who got some people all up in arms during the 2008 election because of his anti-American rhetoric (many called it “the truth”) and his association with then-presidential candidate Barack Obama. We haven’t heard much about him in the past few years, but apparently his daughter has been busy.
Jeri L. Wright has been indicted on allegations that she contributed to the misuse of a $1.25 million state grant. A couple, Regina and Ronald Evans, have also been indicted of money laundering, fraud, and more, accused of shenanigans through their GED prep and vocational training business, We Are Our Brother Keeper. Another indictment against Regina Evans’ brother accuses him of obstruction of justice and has him embroiled in the widening money laundering investigation, says NBC Chicago.
Wright is accused of taking $20,000 of a $28,000 grant she received and putting it in the Evans’ bank accounts. All of this is part of a wider investigation into what the Evans’ were actually doing with money they were supposed to be using for classes. Indictments against the Evans’ were handed down a year ago.
Wright hasn’t issued a comment.
