Former President Bill Clinton Joins Twitter. Say Hello To @PrezBillyJeff!
During an interview between Stephen Colbert and former President Bill Clinton that aired last night, we were introduced to the President’s new online alter ego: @PrezBillyJeff.
The two spoke on Saturday during a Clinton Global Initiative event at Washington University in St. Louis. The gathering included more than 1,000 students from across the US and 75 countries, according to the AP.
After admitting that he’s been reluctant to join Twitter, Colbert offered his help. So far, there’s only been on tweet, but he’s already got more than 59,000 followers.
“Clinton also provided a tongue-in-cheek reason for his reluctance to email, saying it dates back to congressional probes into his presidential administration,” the New York Daily News reports.
As for the handle, it’s a nickname that Colbert gave the former Prez on the spot.
“Once a president leaves office you can call him anything you like,” replied Clinton. Oh you Billy Jeff! That’s why we would vote for you again.
After the jump, you can watch the clip where President Clinton officially enters the Twitterverse.
