It’s no secret that the U.S. economy is in bad shape and has been for several years—and as of February, the unemployment rate was at 7.7%, just a two-point drop from January’s number. Unfortunately, employers are well aware of these facts and many are using it to their advantage. Never has the playing field been so lopsided between employer and employee; companies are inundated with resumes and some either don’t have the budget to hire anyone or are now being incredibly selective. There have even been reports of people being called for multiple rounds of interviews for positions that may or may not exist, and of course, there are so many people who’ve been out of work for years, unable to find anything. Basically all of this means if you’ve got a job, hold onto it.
