In extremely sad news, an Englewood, New Jersey mother and her daughter were found murdered in their home yesterday, a crime that shook many in their community who knew the 40-year-old mother, Tammy Pitts Gaddy, and her 3-year-old, Nastasia. To make things worse, Gaddy’s boyfriend, Michael Brady, 34, has been arrested today for the murders, which were committed after the couple got into an argument that escalated out of control. Brady is not the father of the young girl, and her actual father was recently hospitalized for a stroke and Gaddy and the man had been split for a while. However, Brady and Tammy Pitts Gaddy were together for three years.
According to NBC News, officials say that Tammy Pitts Gaddy was stabbed multiple times by Brady after their argument, and it is being reported that the toddler might have witnessed the brutal attack, so Brady suffocated her with a plastic bag before leaving the scene of the crime. However, ABC News says that the mother was found on the first floor of the home with a knife impaled in her head, while Nastasia was found in the basement, next to a large black plastic bag. The couple allegedly found themselves in heated arguments often, as police were called to the home in the past to help halt their confrontations. But sadly, this time things ended in a way that no one could have imagined.
Ironically, Brady went with Gaddy’s family to her home when they were alarmed after not hearing from her and not being able to get in touch with her for more than a day. A lot of relatives went to the home to check on Gaddy, and when they broke into it after not being able to get someone to come to the door, they sadly made the initial gruesome discovery. When speaking with the New York Daily News before the boyfriend’s arrest, a family friend, Vaum Sims, was deeply saddened by the senseless killing, describing Gaddy as a devoted and loving mother. “She was a sweet person, a very, very good mother. She loved that girl. She lived for her.”
Such a truly sad and disgusting occurrence, and an even bigger wake-up call for us as women and mothers to be extremely careful when it comes to the people we allow in our lives and in the lives of our children. Brady has been working as a custodian in a middle school, and has now been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He’s being held on $2 million bail.
