MN Year In Review: 10 Of The Most STOP Worthy Style Moves From “Style To Steal Or Girl, Stop”
These looks were more than “interesting.” Depending on the materials mixed together, the colors, the fit, or just the overall look of an ensemble, these beautiful women made some especially tacky decisions when it came to fashion this year. We dig them for their respective talents, but we’re still kind of mad at them for not shielding our eyes from lace tragedies, shearling vests, and the mistake of walking the streets with no panties on, showing us their lady business. To them we politely say, “GIRL, stop!” Here are 10 outfits we just couldn’t get with this year…
Excerpt From Dec. 7:
“The actress/singer arrived to the Lucky Magazine Ninth Annual ‘Lucky Shops’ Event, which she hosted after covering the magazine’s newest issue, wearing a VERY interesting getup. Keeping warm in this cool New York fall weather, Hudson rocked some red leather shorts with black tights, a brown sweater and a chunky gray knit sweater. To accessorize, she threw on black booties, a few diamond rings and some diamond stud earrings. The hair looked great!”
While the hair and make-up was a winner for Jennifer, this outfit? Never again. The leather shorts and the granddaddy sweater and the stockings are just really not meant to be part of one ensemble all together like that. A lovely girl, but this outfit from a few weeks back had us ready to fall out and give up on her for good in the fashion department.
Excerpt From Feb. 8:
“When you think about getting dressed up for a night at the illustrious Carnegie Hall, I guess I just assumed most people would want to rock some sort of gown or upscale dress. But no, when model Jessica White thought about going to Carnegie Hall for Jay-Z’s much lauded performance on Monday, she opted for something see-through. Like, all over. This lace jumpsuit with its many frills, high neckline and designs could have actually rivaled all the hoopla over Beyoncé’s arrival back into the public eye after birthing baby Blue. She kept it pretty gangster in the outfit, opting not to cover her nipples with some sort of tape (or a bra for that matter), and rocked white underwear underneath just to be ten times more bold. On top of that, White wore a big gold and white belt, a small black purse, and strappy, chunky white heels.”
This might be, hands down, the worst outfit of the year. Jessica White is such a beautiful young woman, and while most of the stuff she wears is flattering to her figure, it’s tacky. This particular outfit for this particular occasion was JUST that. Everything about the ensemble was crazy looking, and the fact that she wanted everyone to see her lady bits, to the point that she wouldn’t even cover up her breasts, floored me. Even the shoes…girl, what was this!? STOP.
Excerpt From Dec. 14:
“Model and reality personality Eva Pigford showed up for the Voli light vodkas event in West Hollywood brightening up the black carpet with her hot pink dress. The body-hugging look was on its mini-skirt ish and had a turtleneck and long sleeves (maybe a bit longer than 3/4). She accessorized with black fingerless leather gloves that had spikes all over them, as well as a black choker with multicolored studs and black leather boots that were of course, heels.”
I like Eva, but I loathed this look. The dress was too short everywhere in terms of length, and arm length, and was too tight on her, especially since it let everyone know what type of push-up bra she was wearing for the occasion. Plus, the gloves weren’t necessary, especially since they weren’t really similar to the choker she was rocking. Just doing too much and too little at the same time, so that’s why she’s on the list.
Excerpt From Oct. 19:
“Singer Ciara was seen on her way out of the “Big Morning Buzz” taping in NYC looking very inspired by Hammer and high fashion. She wore a sleeveless turtleneck with some pleated black harem pants and some very high Louboutin boots with a gold heel. She pulled her hair up in a knotted bun, accessorized with a gold cuff, gold bangles and a flurry of rings, and had some fresh make up on, including a hot red lip.”
I don’t know about you, but I thought we were done with big arse harem pants like over a year ago!? Something about this whole ensemble just seemed very confused and was a poor attempt at trying to do something different that would be labeled chic. The bun is cute, but the tall boots with the tucked-in harem pants and the shirt that shows off her bra is a no. Plus, she didn’t even look as comfortable in it as she should. The hair wasn’t bad though…
Excerpt From June 29:
“Rap-stress extraordinaire Azealia Banks hit up the Serpentine Gallery summer party in London this week in a VERY interesting getup. This embellished Moschino dress was a mix of pink and orange sequins and quirky and neutral furry balls. To top off the outfit, she wore these red jellies and on her head was her favorite wavy black weave.”
If you’re going to try and go high fashion, fine. I’m sure you think I loathe this dress, but with its funky collar and fun sequins, it’s really not bad. It’s just the fact that baby girl put on jelly sandals with it. I dig the confidence, but these clunky strawberry shoes should have stayed in the box…in the back of her closet.
Excerpt From Aug. 31:
“Ora threw on an interesting feline-inspired long-sleeved dress with a furry vest and some strappy open-toe heels. Her makeup, per the usual, looks good, but this outfit has just too much going on for me. The dress is a bit too all over the place in colors and prints (do I see paisley??) and the vest wasn’t a good addition.”
Is that a shearling jacket? Ora is really trying her damndest to step out the box and have people go gaga over it, but the way she piles on her pieces is anything but fashionable. This particular dress, with a shearling jacket that has sleeves that match the dress, wasn’t going to be cute, no matter how cute she is. But I will take those shoes!
Excerpt From March 2:
“Talk about controversy. Bailon showed up to Caesars Entertainment’s “Escape to Total Rewards” event in NYC last night in a dress that showed off more than her curves. It was a cream colored number with a large piece of ruched material covering her ladybits. Too bad that while being snapped by photogs, a wind blew and those same ladybits were exposed–sans underwear. The bottom of the dress was sheer, but the back had black beading details to leave something to the imagination. She did her best with a cropped leather jacket and some see-through booties to finish it.”
We all know what went wrong with this look, and no, it’s not just the huge piece of material sitting in the front, it’s also the fact that Adrienne Bailon pulled an Anne Hathaway by going panty-less in a dress that needed drawls. Bailon still claims that she didn’t intentionally show off her vag, but when you know you’re wearing sheer materials and don’t do anything to be on the safe side, you’re not slick. Nice jacket though!
Monica is one of my favorite people, but clearly this wasn’t one of my favorite looks. From the neon pink bottoms to the oversized wrinkled tunic and the sheer Louboutin booties, all of these pieces weren’t meant to work together. The shoes are better for something more bad a**, the top is better with jeans or tights, and the pants? They can go actually…
Excerpt From Jan. 9:
“While some went for major ballgowns and others picked out pretty cocktail dresses, Neal went for something in between with this red dress that showed off an angled red skirt. The red dress was covered in a lot of bright beading and sequins that hugged her figure very nicely. To accent the spaghetti strapped dress, she showed off shiny tan closed-toe heels (which were on display thanks to the open angled skirt) and a scalloped clutch that matched the shoes. Her jewelry was minimal, while the hair was very conservative. She went for bangs and a tucked under roll atop the crown of her hair. The makeup was fab, and so was the glistening skin.”
I’ll never forget how hard I laughed when a reader on Facebook said that Elise Neal looked like an extra from Dynasty in this dress. They were right. The whole fishtail style, the heavy sequins and beads, and even the hairstyle just came off so ’80s with a side of ballroom dance fail that it really couldn’t be taken seriously. A beautiful gal, but it’s always a better look for Elise Neal to keep things simple.
Excerpt From May 25:
“Ms. Bossy was back on the scene testing the limits of fashion as usual. She appeared at an event during the Cannes Film Festival in this sparkly dress from ASOS. The look paired multi-colored sequins with a little bit of mesh, some great stretching material, and she herself paired the dress with strappy, ribbon-adorned heels. The hair was big and bold just like Kelis, and she had many a unique bangle and bracelet on with her humongous hoops.”
An already colorful person, I could appreciate this look if it wasn’t for the multiple sequin stripes in different colors. With the big hair it was definitely ’80s, but was it cute? Naw, not really. I’m still a big Kelis fan though, and I’ve seen enough fashion fab-ness to forgive and forget this look.
