It Should Never Get This Bad: Men Who’ve Been Involved In Domestic Violence Situations

Domestic violence is nothing to play with. And we’re not trying to make light of the situation; but it’s a very prevalent issue…even in the world of celebrities. And we think you should be aware. These are the men who have admitted or have been accused of domestic violence. Let’s hope these fifteen men have learned from their mistakes.

Floyd Mayweather

Floyd Mayweather was arrested in 2010 for assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Josie Harris, and threatening to kill her in front of their two children. He served out two months of a 90-day prison sentence this summer after pleading guilty to a lesser misdemeanor domestic battery charge.

Terrence Howard

Terrence Howard has a long history of domestic violence. In 2002, he was arrested for breaking into his then-estranged wife’s home and punching her in the face. Earlier this year, during his divorce from Michelle Ghent (his second wife), disturbing details emerged that Howard once threw Ghent across a hotel room and threatened to throw her off a balcony, “slugged” her in the face, slammed a knife into a kitchen counter while prompting Ghent to stab him with it, broke her computer in half, and threatened to kill himself – all of this alleged.

Flavor Flav

Former Public Enemy hype man Flavor Flav was arrested in Las Vegas this past October after throwing his fiancée to the ground, ripping her earring out of her ear, and threatening her teenage son’s life while brandishing two knives. The heated dispute resulted in two domestic violence charges for the 53-year old: misdemeanor battery and felony assault with a deadly weapon.

Charlie Sheen

Charlie Sheen could be the face of domestic violence in America. He was accused of hitting a young college student in the head in 1994, after she rejected his sexual advances. He was arrested and pleaded guilty in 1996 for assaulting his girlfriend so severely that she needed seven stitches in her lip. And then was arrested and pleaded guilty in 2009 for choking his third wife before holding a knife to her throat.

Matt Barnes

Matt Barnes was arrested in September 2010 after police responded to a domestic violence call at his home in Sacramento. The officers charged Barnes after finding both him and wife Gloria Govan (from BBWLA) with injuries – based on these injuries they determined Barnes to be the aggressor. Since the incident, both Barnes and Govan have been adamant that no domestic violence ever took place.

Chris Brown

There’s really no need to relive – or re-explain – the events of that fateful February night in 2009. I just hope that Chris Brown can learn from that incident and make better choices in the future. I, for one, believe he can.

Gary Dourdan

Former CSI star Gary Dourdan was charged with domestic violence in 2011 for breaking his ex-girlfriend’s nose during a violent dispute at his Southern California home. He wasn’t jailed for the crime, but was placed on five years’ probation, ordered to attend 52 weeks of violence counseling, ordered to undergo drug rehabilitation treatment (Dourdan has a history of drug problems), and ordered to steer clear of his ex for five years.

Michael Lohan

In October of 2011, Michael Lohan was arrested and jailed on suspicion of domestic violence stemming from a fight with his very on-again/off-again girlfriend Kate Major. This would be one of many domestic violence charges the troubled Hollywood dad has had to face.

Joe Budden

In 2011, disturbing details emerged in regard to a domestic violence incident involving rapper Joe Budden and his video vixen ex-girlfriend Esther Baxter, who was pregnant at the time. According to Baxter: after getting into a heated argument over Budden’s flirting with other women, he grabbed her by her ankles, dragged her across the floor, choked her until she couldn’t breathe, and sat on her pregnant stomach for half an hour. It was not until Baxter visited a hospital that she learned she had miscarried. She filed charges against Budden resulting in his arrest and their subsequent break up.

Chad Johnson

After head-butting ex-wife Evelyn Lozada outside of their Florida home, Chad Johnson was arrested and charged with domestic abuse. Following the unfortunate incident, Johnson lost his lucrative football contract with the Miami Dolphins, as well as a reality TV show chronicling his and Evelyn’s relationship, that would have aired just weeks after the occurrence.

Trey Songz

Back in September, Trey Songz was arrested for not exactly domestic violence, but assault and harassment of a similar nature. While celebrating his album release at a Queens, New York strip club, Songz threw a wad of cash at a woman’s face, thick enough and hard enough to blacken her eye. The reason? – According to the victim, Donna McIntosh-Inoe (who is not a stripper as some have speculated, simply a patron) Songz became infuriated after she snapped his picture. He then grabbed her phone and attempted to delete the picture but was unable, which angered him even more and resulted in his throwing the stack of bills. Songz was charged with misdemeanor assault and ordered to stay away from the victim.

Bobby Brown

Although he’s since moved on, I’m not sure we’ll ever forget that Bobby Brown was one half of one of the most controversial marriages in Hollywood history. He caught a misdemeanor battery charge in 2003 for striking ex-wife Whitney Houston and threatening to “beat her a–.” Whitney suffered a cut lip and bruised cheek, though was supportive of Brown throughout his domestic violence hearing.

Mike Tyson

Just three months after marrying, Mike Tyson and Robin Givens’ holy matrimony descended into scandal after Givens accused Tyson of spousal abuse. Within one year they were divorced. In 1991, Tyson’s domestic violence troubles were reignited when he was convicted of raping a young woman in an Indianapolis hotel room. He served three years in prison.

Deion Sanders

Following a bizarre incident in April during which Pilar Sanders and a friend allegedly “jumped” Deion at his Dallas home, Pilar was arrested, charged with simple assault, and imprisoned overnight. Though not arrested, Deion was cited for misdemeanor assault for his participation in the domestic disturbance.

Dennis Rodman

In 2008, former NBA star Dennis Rodman was arrested at a Los Angeles hotel on suspicion of felony assault. After him and his girlfriend Gina Peterson got into a violent altercation, hotel security called the police who, upon arrival, noticed bruises on Peterson’s arm. Rodman was charged with spousal battery, brandishing a deadly weapon, and dissuading a witness. He later admitted to drinking too much the night of the incident.
