December 14, 2012  |

Teachers, students, and faculty at  Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT, had anything but a normal Friday today when a gunman went on a shooting rampage inside of a Kindergarten classroom that, so far, has resulted in the death of 18 children and eight adults.

The shooter, Ryan Lanza, is reported to be the son of one of the teachers at Sandy Hook, and was reportedly killed in the midst of the rampage. Lanza is also said to have killed his father in Hoboken , NJ, before heading to the school. According to The Huffington Post:

The masked gunman entered the school administration office around 9:40 a.m., about 30 minutes after the school day began. The first 911 call was received by police one minute later.

Investigators said the gunman fired his weapon at least 100 times.

Students inside the building were escorted out in a single-file line. There are about 626 students enrolled in kindergarten through fourth grade classes at Sandy Hook Elementary, with another 46 faculty members, Newtown Patch reported.

Lanza was reportedly wearing dark clothing, a mask, and a bulletproof vest, and was carrying four guns. So far, police have not confirmed whether there was an additional gunman besides Lanza, but another person has been taken into custody for questioning. Names of the victims have also not been released yet, but one parent who claims to have witnessed the attack told CNN that principal Dawn Hochsprung and a school psychologist were killed.

President Obama is expected to make a statement on this situation, which has already been labeled the deadliest school shooting in U.S. history, at 3:15 pm. We’re definitely praying for the family and friends of all those affected by this tragedy.
