Good Luck With That: Rihanna Charging $250 For Deluxe Version Of New Album

October 31, 2012  |

This is what happens when people pay you $8 million to turn on Christmas lights, you start thinking you can demand outrageous amounts of money from other people too — like your fans.

Taking the title of her new album “Unapologetic” way too literally, Rih Rih and her people have decided to slap a whopping $250 price tag on the deluxe version of her upcoming CD. For people who’ve now become accustomed to paying $9.99-$12.99 for a digital version of someone’s album, I imagine this package may be a hard sell. But to entice the navy to dig deep in their pockets — at Christmas time no less —  the deluxe album is packed with all sorts of goodies.

According to US Mag:

Described as a “limited edition art piece for a true collector,” the Diamonds Executive Platinum Box comes packed with super-exclusive extras, including a handwritten personal note from the star and a custom-made white-and-silver View-Master with a “vintage reel of never-before-released 3-D images” of her style evolution.

Fans who purchase the set will also get a T-shirt, a two-gigabyte flash drive with Rihanna’s photo on it, seven art-print lithographs, seven laptop stickers, a poster, a 40-page book of notes and lyrics, a 20-minute DVD, and a special-edition vinyl record featuring remixes of the hit “Diamonds.”

Oh, and the actual album.

I’m tempted to say it’s a little soon to be putting together Rihanna collector’s items, especially with this throwback approach. I haven’t had a poster of an artist on my wall since Immature was on the cover of Right On! But then again, Rihanna has been crowned the top pop artist of the last 20 years despite both hardcore fans and naysayers agreeing that her vocals aren’t exactly her major draw.

Anywho, the Diamonds Executive Platinum Box ships December 11, just in time to be the most expensive stocking stuffer ever. Will you be purchasing?
