“Pitch Perfect” Star And Songwriter Ester Dean Talks Working With Rihanna And Breaking Into The Industry

September 20, 2012  |

For those Noirettes out there who’ve had the pleasure of acting a fool to songs like “Drop It Low,” “Countdown,” “Super Bass” and “Rude Boy,” you have Ester Dean to thank. The uber-successful songwriter has been writing for some of the biggest names in the industry and at the same time, making a name for herself with her unique voice and dance-worthy tracks. But now Dean is taking her talents to the big screen as she stars in the musical comedy, Pitch Perfect, alongside Anna Kendrick and Brittany Snow. It’s about a young woman named Beca (Anna Kendrick) who arrives at college and finds herself fitting in with a band of interesting misfits who all have one thing in common: They can SANG! When their a capella group stops taking on traditional songs and try their hands at mash-ups and classic pop favorites (they even take on “No Diggity”), they find their way to the top of the pack against other cutthroat a capella groups.

Like everything Dean puts her hands on, the movie looks like it’s going to be a big hit! We caught up with her in an exclusive Twitterview and she talked with us about her favorite artist to work with and how she reached success by changing her mindset.
