Atlanta Passes $559 Million Budget
(Atlanta Journal Constitution) — Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed swept into office with a reputation of being a consensus builder and a skilled negotiator. Those talents were on display Friday as the Atlanta City Council voted 12-1 to pass a $559 million budget that Reed said makes the city safer because it includes the hiring of new police officers and raises for all public-safety workers.
