The world was first introduced to single mother Nadya Suleman in 2009 when she gave birth to octuplets (with the help of in-vitro fertilization) despite her lack of means to care for 14 children. She was labeled irresponsible by the public as well as her own family, and these days, it’s apparent that the single mother will not be quelling the naysayers anytime soon.
“Octomom” has recently filed for bankruptcy and is said to be in talks to do a masturbation video for an adult entertainment company to raise money. In her bankruptcy filing, Suleman reported $50,000 in assets and $1 million in debt. According to Huffington Post, Suleman “owes money to her father, the city’s water department, DirecTV and Whittier Christian School, where at least some of her children are students.”
Since gaining the national spotlight a few years ago, Suleman has accepted donations and has shown a willingness to cash in on her fame; however, the public’s disgust with her decisions have made her a hated celebrity rather than a media darling. Maybe Octomom thought she’d get the “Jon & Kate Plus 8” treatment but it’s been a far rougher road for the aspiring teacher whose mental health has been questioned repeatedly. In her quest to earn income, Suleman recently posed topless for the U.K. magazine, Closer. We’re sure that’s setting a good example for her children. SMH.
Ironically, Suleman appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show and got expert advice from Suze Orman about handling her finances better. We know it’s hard to manage with 14 children no matter what savings plans are in place but it’s obvious that Suleman’s experiment and selfish endeavor was doomed to fail from the start. In her quest to fulfill a dream to have a big family, she neglected the needs of her children who are suffering the most from her poor decisions.
What do you think? Should there be more policies in place to prevent more Octomoms?
