With gas prices continuing to soar, traveling for this Summer may be at an all time low. Planning some quality time with you and your boo at home for these upcoming hot summer months may not be such a bad idea.  Therefore  we’ve compiled 7 steamy and romantic movies we recommend for those hot summer nights that are sure to raise the heat while you both cuddle on the couch.  Here we go!


Like Water For Chocolate (1992)

This film is a flavorful palette for the taste buds. Set  in Mexico during the Mexican Revolution, it involves two forbidden young lovers, a controlling mother and a girls deep connection with food.  This film possess all the ingredients for a hot summer with you and your boo.

9 1/2 Weeks (1986)

A kinky sexual affair between two perfect strangers. Taking place in New York City, a wealthy Wall Street businessman seduces a beautiful and recently divorced art assistant, and carries out their erotic rendezvous for 9 1/2 weeks.  Packed with mystery and scandal, this erotic movie is sure to spark the imagination and feed ones wildest fantasy.

Chocolat (2000)

With a self explained movie title, “Chocolat” is a sinfully delicious romantic comedy for all chocolate lovers.  Taking place in rural France, a mother and her young daughter travel  from the north and open a chocolate shop in a new town, which brings two couples together, while bringing back life, laughter, and love to the town once again.  Nothing gets more romantic than a movie that involves chocolate, love, and France.

Shes Gotta Have It (1986)

With its catchy phrase, “Please baby, please baby, please baby, baby baby please!” this popular black and white Spike Lee Joint is an American Comedy that takes place in Brooklyn in the 1980’s. Involving a sexually independent desirable woman and three men who just can’t get enough of her.  Since the whole movie was shot in Brooklyn, this movie is a great must see  for all my true Brooklynites out there.  You are sure to see some parts of Brooklyn that you recognize.

The Notebook (2004)

Stock up on some box of tissues for you and your boo. Believe it or not this film is known to make even a grown man shed a tear or two. Its a story of two star crossed lovers separated by their class in society and a parents’ disapproval. Ultimately their love for one another will prove too strong to be bound by social differences.

(Starring: Ryan Gosling,  Gena Rowlands, James Garner and Rachel McAdams)

Love Jones (1997)

Many people seem to love “Love Jones”. Why? Because most would agree that unlike most romantic films,  its one of those movies that just keeps it real about the struggle in searching for love.  It’s a black urban romantic comedy set in Chicago, involving a a male poet, played by Larenz Tate, who persistently pursues a female photographer, played by the lovely Nia Long. But feelings are soon to be assessed by her and a series of romantic obstacles are set in motion,  in order to find out if her beau is the real deal or just wants to “kick it”.  The movie includes a great soundtrack and several scenes intertwined with soulful jazz music and spoken word.

Hav Plenty (1997)

If you and your boo are looking for a few good laughs, you may want to consider this one.  It’s a hot and witty comedy about a young broke would-be novelist and screenwriter with a not so good love life.  He soon meets a very rich and beautiful woman and  is invited to her home during the holidays and begins an interesting romance together.  Cameo appearances are made by music artists’: Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Lauryn Hill, and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas.  And if your one that is in love or falling in love, please be sure to check out the movie’s popular R&B soundtrack “Any Other Night” sung by no other than the oh so hot Chico Debarge, featuring Joe.
