Take It To The Floor: Maxi Dresses That Will Sweep You Into Spring

It’s clear that the maxi dress trend isn’t going anywhere and now that warmer temps are becoming more constant, we can shimmy into them sooner rather than later. Lightweight. Comfy. Cool. These three words describe these dresses perfectly, and we think every woman should have at least one of these elongated frocks in her wardrobe. Short ladies, don’t get discouraged, we too can rock this trend with alterations performed by a tailor or by embracing a higher heel.

The hard part is finding a maxi in a print or color that you love. Well, hopefully, we’ve accomplished the hard part for you and – as a bonus – found maxis that will take you from poolside to cocktails with ease. Spring is here ladies, let’s dress accordingly.

Purchase C&C California Color Block Maxi pictured above for $98 at Revolve Clothing. More sizes here.

Multi Halter Maxi Dress, Dorothy Perkins – $59

A printed halter maxi is just what spring ordered! A neutral base infused with multiple colors – like this dress – is easy to wear. For day, try a neutral sandal. Pair with light brown heels and load on gold bangles for a nighttime look.

Stripped Maxi, Forever 21 – $16.50

Stripes are trending and things don’t get classier than black and white. Sail through your day with this nautical look paired with neon sandals. For evening, Try a red wedge and a long necklace like the one pictured above.

Floral Rouched Strap Maxi, Miss Selfridge – $72

We’ve made it known that we love a good floral, but sometimes the garden can be a bit overgrown, if you know what we mean. When it comes to this creme based stunner, less is more. Try a pastel blue sandal for day and a peep-toe coral heel for night would dress this maxi right up. A gold cuff, day or night, is all the bling you need.

Ella Moss Maxi, Revolve Clothing – $178

This color – ‘chili,’ to be technical – is red hot! The thin spaghetti straps and relaxed top make for a casual/hot look. If you’re feeling adventurous, find a leopard sandal or heel to wear with this bold color. Prefer to keep things simple? Go for creme footwear. Either way, this hue will wow the crowd!

Remain Belted Maxi Dress (Plus Size), Nordstrom – $98

Don’t let the horizontal zip-zags fool you, this dress is a great option for plus size ladies! The solid black panels outlining the pattern will also outline your shape and have a slimming effect. The brown belt is included and highlights the waist. Toss in a slightly wider sleeve plus small slit, and you’ve got one cute maxi! Chunky platforms or wedges would work if you don’t want to wear a sandal.

Geo Printed Maxi Dress, Miss Selfridge – $82

Black and pastel colors unite in this geometric number. The sheerness of the skirt gives legs more visibility, and a thin black belt gives the waist a definite shape. Pull one of the bright colors out of the dress and use it as inspiration for a heel shade. We’re thinking a citron pump would be gorgeous.

Winter Kate Kamakura Dress, Shopbop – $320
Winter Kate is one of the fashion lines belonging to Nicole Richie. If this print looks familiar, it’s because Nicole was seen out and about wearing a top and pair of pants covered in it. At any rate, we like this print better in maxi dress form. In fact, the print is so fierce no extra accessories are needed. Wear flat sandals in a neutral color and float around town looking great!

Striking Facade Maxi Dress, Threadsence – $57

This dress is great for a gal that doesn’t want to wear stripes all over. The yellow top portion of the dress is bright and the navy, white, and orange stripes compliment the color well. Dress this one down with a light denim vest and nude sandals. Dress it up with nude high heels and add a collar necklace that has a bit of shine.

Sleeveless Peekaboo Dress, Forever 21 – $32.80

The cutout trend has gravitated toward the shoulders! This pretty coral color is soft and feminine. Cinch the waist with a contrasting color for a more dramatic look. We think a bright blue belt would look awesome. Slip on your favorite pair of sandals for day. Come nightfall, switch them out for beige platforms with a wooden stacked heel. We guarantee you’ll look goddess-like!
