Style to Steal or Girl, Stop: Jada, J.Lo, Tyra and More Hot Looks and Hot Messes From This Week
It’s the end of the week and a perfect time to not only evaluate how the week has gone for you, but what fashions were a hit and a miss as well. The ladies were doing it big this week in sequins and sweeping gowns, and we’re going to check it out and figure what is worth stealing, and what ish needs to be stopped. This is the weekly wrap-up!
J.LO had some fun in the sun in Acapulco at the beginning of the week while shooting a new video called “Follow the Leader.” Coincidentally, her new boy toy boo Casper got to try his hand at directing the video. While on the set, Jenny from the block shined on ’em in uber-tight black pants and a long-sleeved top covered in what looked like skeleton bone based designs. The mother of two was looking pretty fierce and small in her shiny ensemble, which she topped off with open-toe booties, some ring bling and bangle action, and a very interesting hairdo. For the purposes of video making, it’s cute, but for every day, I’d wear these pieces separately. A reluctant steal for me.
Actress Zoe Saldana was standing pretty in this sheer red number at The Hollywood Reporter & Jimmy Choo Inaugural “25 Most Powerful Stylists Luncheon” in Hollywood on Wednesday. The dress was covered in floral and doily-esque details, and had a tulle trim at the bottom. She went nontraditional with her shoe color choice by rocking brown heels, and hit the event with a matching brown belt around her waist, and a snakeskin clutch. The hair, as you can see, was free-flowing and down. At first glance, it’s not a standout outfit, but once you examine all the detail and how classy the look is…you’ve got to love it. Steal!
Heeeey Jada! The petite actress and mommy was caught strolling through the streets of Manhattan in this very interesting but very comfortable look. Running errands? Why not wear loose fitting trousers, a long, thin jacket, and a low cut brown top? To accessorize, she thought outside of the box and did pink, open-toe pumps with a gaudy statement necklace (that kind of matched), bangles, and an embellished off-white bag. Digging the hair and she looks pretty fresh faced too. I appreciate her trying something different with what could have been an unoriginal all-white ensemble. STEAL!
Recent Harvard grad Tyra Banks showed up looking like an alluring black version of Morticia Adams in this dark and lovely gown. She was showing up and showing out for last night’s 4th Annual Blossom Ball at The New York Public Library. It was a strapless number that comes off short and has a sheer bottom. The satin detail on the dress is nice as it looked great with her small patent leather clutch and spiked earrings. Her hair and makeup were also fab (work that weave boo!) by the way. I love Tyra, but this dress is just okay for me. It doesn’t blow my mind, but I don’t hate it…however, I’ll pass. I need some color in my life.
Garcelle is single (we think) and ready to mingle in this strapless leather (or pleather) red dress that reached down below her knees while hitting up The Hunger Games premiere in L.A. earlier in the week. To accessorize, she threw on some zebra print heels, some sparkly bangles, and some small silver earrings. Her hair and makeup look great! But in the end, I can’t say my mind is blown about this look. The zebra shoes are underwhelming and the dress material is a no-no for me, but her body looks great. Yet and still, I have to say…girl, stop.
Laid back, classy and sassy, actress Keke Palmer attended the 2012 Nickelodeon Upfront event in NYC on Wednesday dressed from head to toe in all black (aside from the pink lip). The look consisted of slim black pants, a loose fitting top, a leather jacket, and some black wedged heels. Much love to the leather jacket for being so fierce with the ornate collar. I think her hair and makeup lookssimple and fabulous, and I can dig not doing the most and dressing over-the-top for such a chill event. Good look Keke–steal.
In London on Wednesday, Mel B attended the European premiere of The Hunger Games on Wednesday. She hit the red carpet in this long black gown with a turtleneck and paired it with black slingback heels. She also threw on these very large, hunter green earrings and a cute bow-like ponytail on the top of her head. The makeup (especially the eyelashes) is great, and the new mom is looking slimmer than ever. However, I don’t like the way this dress makes her chest look, and the black shoes just bore me with the black dress. Love Mel B, but I loathe this look. Stop it, boo.
To sum up, I think my favorite look on this list was actually Jada Pinkett-Smith’s ensemble. It was loose and fun, but still very much appropriate for everything from errands to hitting up a nightclub with the girls. Zoe’s sheer red dress comes in a close second by the way. But as always, these are just my favorites. Which look or looks did you love? Let us know below…
