Yesterday, we wrote about singer Summer Walker telling her fans that during her meet and greets she would not physically touch them because as an empath she feels their emotions and sometimes it can be too much for her.
There were those who understood her and those who felt she was being too dramatic or looking for a way to get out interacting with the people who had spent money to see her. The back and forth didn’t do all that much to help with the concerns she already had going on tour.
And earlier today, Walker announced that she was canceling her First and Last tour.
“I just want to say I really, really, really appreciate the people who genuinely care and love me for, who accept my personality and really enjoy my craft, who play the f*ck out of my music, who show up to the shows, who show up to the meet and greets. I love and appreciate y’all.
But unfortunately, I’m not going to be able to carry on this tour because it doesn’t really coexist well with my social anxiety. My personality—I don’t think introverts are really… I really hope that people understand and respect that. At the end of the day, I’m a person. I have feelings. I get tired. I get sad. And it’s just a lot. I don’t want to lose myself for someone else. I want to give y’all what I can. So, I’m going to keep making music and I’m going to do a few shows but I can’t finish.”
According to Rap Up, twenty of the remaining 29 dates will be canceled. The nine cities where Walker will perform are San Francisco, Toronto, Chicago, Royal Oak, Boston, Philadelphia, New York City, and Atlanta. Ticketholders for the canceled dates will be refunded as soon as possible.
Before her discussion about physical contact, people had accused Walker of being cold or weird. And after this cancellation, I’m sure there will be even more naysayers. But we have to admire and respect a young woman knowing herself and moving with her best interest in mind.
