10 Celebrity Couples Who Split A While Ago But Are Still Married
When it’s good it’s good, and when it’s bad it’s really bad, but nothing is worse than being stuck in the middle. The end of a marriage can be the beginning of a larger war, with estranged partners going through custody battles and disputes over who gets what. In some cases, things can be privately and peacefully sorted out and finalized in a reasonable amount of time. But in other cases, it can be a long uphill journey to freedom, especially if you’re a celebrity with a lot on the line. Need an example? Here are 10 celebrity couples who split a while ago, but on paper, are still very much married.
Keyshia Cole and Daniel “Boobie” Gibson
It’s been years. Keyshia Cole and Daniel “Boobie” Gibson were married in 2011, but have been separated since 2014 following claims of infidelity on Gibson’s part. However, real progress towards legally ending their marriage hasn’t happened since 2017. The two were recently ordered to show up for a hearing next spring to deal with the divorce once and for all or deal with a fine. Meanwhile, Cole has been dating boyfriend Niko Hale since 2017 and they just welcomed their first child together.
Forest Whitaker and Keisha Nash-Whitaker
The Whitakers decided to end their marriage after 22 years together, to the shock of many. The two met on the set of the 1994 film Blown Away and then married two years later in 1996. Forest was seen dining with a woman in NYC earlier this year, but the divorce still has not been finalized.
Tamar Braxton and Vince Herbert
Braxton filed for divorce from her former manager, Vince Herbert, in 2017. And while a judge recently changed their marital status to “single” per her request, they hadn’t actually finalized the split of all their assets. They are free to date though without any shame, though Braxton has been in a new relationship with boyfriend David Adefeso since 2018.
Jesse Williams and Aryn Drake-Lee
These two were together for more than a decade and married for five when they decided to call it quits, with Williams filing for divorce in 2017. Though he has dated a few different women since then, and is currently with actress Taylour Paige, he and Aryn are still doing battle over child and spousal support.
La La and Carmelo Anthony
La La barely even speaks on Carmelo these days after he was spotted on a yacht with a woman who was not her around her birthday earlier this year. This came after they reconciled following claims he had a child outside of their marriage.
A rep for the actress said they have been living apart but remain committed to their son, and La La was said to be weighing out her options to decide whether or not she wants to stay married, but she still hasn’t filed for divorce.
Amar’e Stoudemire and Alexis Welch
After Stoudemire was found to have had a child outside of his marriage to Welch, it wasn’t a shock that the couple seemed to be on the outs. However, it was surprising that he was the one who filed for divorce. Despite that though, the case was dismissed because he never served her the papers and failed to file the documents to move the divorce proceedings forward. Stoudemire has been playing basketball in China as of late and it’s unclear where he and Welch stand, but either way, they’re still husband and wife.
Janet Jackson and Wissam Al Mana
The two shockingly split in 2017, just months after Jackson gave birth to their son, Eissa. While Jackson was pursuing a divorce, there have been very few updates on the situation since 2018 and no word of a divorce being finalized. The pop legend is based in London these days though, and that’s where her estranged husband is.
Wendy Williams and Kevin Hunter
Wendy Williams filed for divorce in April 2019 after her husband, Kevin Hunter fathered a child with his mistress of more than 10 years. Williams admitted after the fact that she had known about what he had going on for a long time but stayed with Hunter for their son, Kevin, Jr.
Through all the heartbreak and pain though, it doesn’t seem to be stopping Wendy Williams from having fun and dating again. She recently claimed she was off the market as her divorce proceedings continue.
Solange Knowles and Alan Ferguson
Earlier this month, Solange made an Instagram post that went viral addressing her breakup with husband Alan Ferguson. The two married in 2014 and she said they’ve been separated since earlier this year. And though the singer has been rumored to have moved on and been dating someone new (she had to shut down cheating rumors), with no divorce filing, the chance of reconciliation is still there and they’re still married.
Tisha Campbell-Martin and Duane Martin
Tisha Campbell-Martin and Duane Martin have had a very messy and very public divorce since she filed in 2018, and things initially started off peaceful. Duane claims Tisha is unstable. Tisha claims he hid money from her during the marriage and was physically and emotionally abusive to her to the point where she had to file a restraining order against him, which was dropped a few months later. They have two sons together and are working on figuring out the custody part of their divorce.
