Rapper Nicki Minaj has officially tied the knot!
The head barb announced her nuptials on Instagram with video of matching newlywed gear which included “Mr. and Mrs.” mugs and “bride” and “groom” hats.
Mrs. Petty captioned the footage with her official new name and their wedding date, “👰🏽🤵🏽😢🙏🏽🎀 Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty 10•21•19.”
Back in August, Nicki alerted her barbs of the upcoming ceremony during an episode of Queen Radio.
“I have to work on my album and I have a lot to focus on that I don’t want to do the big wedding now,” she explained at the time.
“We’ll do the big wedding later.”
Continuing, “Before the 90 days is over, yes, I will be married. I’m very happy about that because my baby makes me so happy.”
When Nicki and Ken first went public back in December of last year, fans and haters quickly dug up Ken’s messy past.
In April of 1995, Ken was convicted of attempted first-degree rape when both he and the accuser were 16. After the incident ,he was registered as a Level 2 sex offender in New York State.
When social media followers commented on Petty’s criminal history, Nicki clapped back saying,
“He was 15, she was 16… in a relationship. But go awf Internet. y’all can’t run my life. Y’all can’t even run y’all own life. Thank you boo.”
In 2006, Petty went to prison for first degree manslaughter and served seven years behind bars. Kenneth and Nicki, who are also childhood friends, reconnected a few years after he was released from prison, and the rest is history.
It seems their shared upbringing, combined with “happiness and good sex,” as Nicki put it, is the key to their relationship.
“When a person is with a n—- that loved them before they had a dime in their pocket? How do you not understand that? How do you not understand happiness vs clout?” she said on another episode of Queen Radio.
“How f—ing dare you talk about lowering standards,” she said.
